2015 One Brown Egg Grading Non-Contest

So this is just for fun. I bought this slabbed, so these scans are through the slab.

 

First, what grade would you give this? Second, do your best to guess what the grader notes say. I'll post both grade and notes later.

So the person who sold me this told me that this was either a 7.0 or 7.5--he didn't recall--according to the person who cracked it, had it signed, and resubmitted it. It came back a 5.5.

 

The super helpful grader notes read:

Yeah, it's a nice 5.5 and I paid market value for it. I think the bottom staple may be popped, because the book looks great. And the graders notes are a laugh, but what d'ya do?

Hard to believe that's just 5.5.

The popped staple could explain the 5.5. But what's that on the bad guy's knee? Is it a stain? Color flaking? It's hard to tell from the scan what's going on there.

 

PS—From what I can see, I'd say the bottom staple is just recessed, not popped.
