CGC Shrink Wrapped Cases?

I've had this book for awhile and it makes me wonder if there is any history to it...

 

I think I bought it in 2002 and it looks like an early generation CGC Case/Card.

 

It looks like it was shrink wrapped with thick plastic.

 

I've asked some folks that have seen a lot of CGC stuff...

 

Have you seen this before? Thank goodness it's not air tight.

Wouldn't it have the red Modern label if it was an original "early days of CGC" case? I've never encountered a slab in a bag, but it's not too hard to seal up a plastic bag like that.

I did break out a magnifying glass to get the number : 0043664034

 

It's not a first generation. Grade date: 03/05/2002.

 

I guess it adds up that this was something that the buyer added in after it came back. Just weird.

Are you sure it's not just in an official CGC bag, but upside down? Is the bottom of it taped?

sealed all the way.

 

I would've cut it off if it didn't have air holes from normal wear.

 

The staples didn't rust for the 13 years it was enclosed in it.
