Sketch Covers Question...

5 posts in this topic

How are people getting their sketch covers yellow-labeled, besides having the artist themselves submit it to CGC? Most people have these done at cons on commission. You pay the artist and they do it at their leisure either at the con when they have time, or later back at their hotel, then you swing by at some point and pick it up. How do you "have it witnessed"?

Can you grab someone from the CGC booth to follow you over to the artist and have the artist verify it was done by them after it's already been completed?

1) Find an artist whose work you'd like on a blank and confirm if they'll even do the art on a blank (some don't). Ask their rates and what each gives you -- Neal Adams draws the same Batman bust and his charges range from $200-$500. Other artists have different price brackets depending upon a number of things -- Headshot, bust or full body? Pencils Only? Pencils & inks? Pencils & Copic pens? Get as much detail as possible before throwing any money down.

2) Schedule a payment plan. Some charge up front. Others charge half now & half upon pickup. Get the details in writing. They'll either work on the art at a con, work on it at home and then hand it to you at the con or they'll work on it at home and finish it in front of you at a con.

3) How will the piece be picked up and sent to CGC? Will you pick up the piece with a CGC rep at a con (be sure that CGC will be there before you go this route) or will a facilitator do it for you for a fee? Plenty of reputable CGC Facilitators that will pick up a Sketch on a Blank Cover and submit it to CGC on your behalf.

The results can be amazing, depending on who you choose to have artwork done by. Below is artwork Art Adams did for me a while back.

Hope the info helps. Good luck and have fun collecting.
