Need advice on loose piece from BC

4 posts in this topic

Hi to all,

This is my first post so let me suck up by saying that I have learned a lot lurking about this board!

My question is this: I bought a Marvel squarebound (modern issue from 1979) and the front of the book appears to be 9.2 - 9.4. However, on the back cover along the edge, there is a small tear with a 1/8 inch abrasion with a smaller hole present. It looks like something snagged it in the past.

How does this affect the grade (especially in terms of CGC) when the front cover looks nice?

Thanks in advance!

i think, grading conservatively, with no other defects of any kind, your back cover would knock the book down to at least a 9.0 (VF/NM).

if there are any other, even slight problems, with the front, like a blunted corner, or a color chip, you're looking at a VF to F+.

of course, this is just my take on it, and is not to be taken as expert opinion
