Fantastic Four will historically be known as what killed the comic movie craze!

I wonder how the Fantastic Four does at the box office this weekend?

hm

Forbes has an article that starts off speculating on just that (but ends up as just a list of the worst 2nd week fall-offs of comic book movies) question and suggests somewhere in the 60+% drop range, but thinks that it might end up as the worst 2nd week drop in history, getting it close to the 70% drop territory.

Sickening levels.

Domestic: $32,549,121 (45.5%)

Foreign: $38,916,952 (54.5%)

Worldwide: $71,466,073

Budget Guesstimate: $120 MM

Revenue Ratio: .596X

I knew it was bad, but didn`t think it was that bad.

Wow!

But then I take away credit because Blake Lively is the worst movie actress of this generation (check out Green Lantern and the Town), though one could argue she was terribly miscast.

Not a great actress, but so effing hot. :luhv:

I actually don't think it's 'that' bad but I do think the negative publicity has contributed to it's sales numbers. There are much worse movies out there.

About the year 2310 if DVD and Blu Ray and Digital sales can be reasonable.

Josh Trank & Miles Teller Almost Came To Blows While Shooting FANTASTIC FOUR

Trank actually campaigned heavily to get Miles Teller cast as Reed Richards, but during the shoot things went bad between the two. Word is Trank's withdrawn, uncommunicative demeanor did not sit right with Teller (reportedly not the easiest guy to get along with himself) and his sarcastic responses to the situation finally brought the two into conflict. At one point the men were apparently "chest to chest", each daring the other to throw the first punch! That didn't happen, but as you can imagine it was not the most positive working environment to be in afterwards. Trank is also said to have been a :censored: to Kate Mara, who he never wanted in the role of Sue Storm in the first place.

So it was the studio that pushed Mara on the film?

The question is will Ant-Man make more this weekend than FF?

Ant-Man has one solid week left of having one theater dedicated it all day long at most multiplexes after that the following two to three screenings a day and out of most theaters the following. The film is on pace to hit the 160 million high mark I suggested maybe 165 if its lucky.

Nope here is the forecast based on Thursday's performances not surprised at #1.

Forecast (August 14 - Aug. 16)

1. Straight Outta Compton - $45M

2. The Man from U.N.C.L.E. - $19M

3. Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation - $14M

4. Fantastic Four - $11M

5. The Gift - $5.5M

That's not necessarily true....

If you look at similar type movies, with +$50MIL opening months (but under $60MIL) for July, most of those movies all ran longer.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (July 15, 2005) stayed in at least 2000 theaters for another 2 weeks past that same time frame and at least 1000 theaters for two weeks after that running all the way through until December 8th. It picked up another 28MIL over that time period.

The First Fantastic Four (July 8, 2005) stayed in at least 2000 theaters for another week past that same time frame and at least 1000 theaters for another week after that running all the way through until the middle of November. It picked up another 15MIL over that time period, and has nowhere near the positive reviews and audience reaction Ant-Man has.

Even The Wolverine (July 26, 2013) which dropped theaters fast after it's 4 weeks ran all the way through until December 5th, and picked up another 10MIL over that time period, but it had already dropped out of the Top 10 a week earlier, and was going against the surprise hit in We're the Millers.

Thursday night, Ant-Man was still ranked #5, and the schedule for the next couple of months looks relatively week.

Just keep in mind how far off the mark they were for it's opening weekend....

FF only did $1.4MIL in it's Thursday after it's opening weekend.... here are some comparison's:

GOTG $7.6MIL

Ant-Man $4.7MIL

Green Lantern $3.7MIL

Green Hornet $1.6MIL

FF did LESS than Green Hornet in it's Thursday after opening weekend, and Green Hornet opened in JANUARY.

Ouch.
