I will start it rolling....

Black Crowes Music Hall 3/14/95 Poster

artist: EMEK

Just above the star that covers her nipple it says Amorica. Poster was part of the tour to promote their album Amorica, features a woman's crotch wearing a United States flag thong with pubic hair sticking out. (pissed off a bunch of people)

This is the only piece I have that would qualify. Not related to a specific band but I dig the artist and image. Excuse the poor quality photo. Commissioned for an article in Playboy. Circa 1990. rockin.JPG

How about music art grails? I've never thought it through, but these two would be way up there:

Drew Struzan, Sabbath Bloody Sabbath (possibly NSFW) (Black Sabbath)

Robert Williams, Appetite for Destruction (possibly NSFW) (Guns 'n' Roses)

Man I was just thinking a day or two ago of an album cover that I wondered where the original might be hiding (if it's even in the wild to begin with). Well that's a blank.

But I'd be all over:

Slayer Reign in Blood, South of Heaven, Seasons in the Abyss

and

Any of the 80s Iron Maidens except the s/t.

and this Rick Griffin...I've wanted since the 90s:

All these for the art, not a great fan of any of the music (per se).

Music art grails? Easy for me - Roger Dean's cover to the first Asia album, followed by Mark Kostabi's Use Your Illusion painting for Guns N'Roses (no way would the wife ever allow that Robert Williams painting to hang in the house!) and Patrick Nagel's iconic cover to Duran Duran's Rio album.

"I mean, seriously, Asia? You framed an Asia poster? How hard did the people at the frame store laugh when you brought this in?"

Good call on the Derek Riggs (?) iron maidens. Those are great!

I'll give you a mulligan on the Griffin :insane:

You're not wrong. Since I read your post I've been thinking to myself, "Asia? WTH is Asia? Never heard of 'em" :insane:

I don't have any album art mostly concert poster art. To of my favorites are

Rolling Stones 1969 Let It Bleed Tour Poster pencil prelim by David Bird

Stones_69_poster_art.jpg

Cream Saville Theatre poster 7/2/67 by Bob Masse

cream_poster_art.jpg

This is the prelim for the Pink Floyd "Backs" Poster 1995 by Finlay Cowan

Finlay Cowan and Storm Thorgerson came up with the concept (back catalogue should be literally "the catalogue on the backs"), Finlay did this prelim and photographed by Tony May. Its BIG, 30"x50", and on the back are a bunch of notes and sketches showing the artist's thought process.

'Atom Heart Mother', 'Relics', 'Dark Side of the Moon', 'Wish You Were Here', 'The Wall' and 'Animals'

Final photograph. I understand it took an artist 6 hours to paint each of the women.

great article on it

And just now I remembered.

Dio's Holy Diver by Randy Barrett:

that's a good one too, not so much a fan of the band, but always liked the art.

Side question: got contact info for Randy Barrett?
