How does it break down?

 

They look like great books to own...

It's Gerber's estimate for the number of copies of that issue that exist. Sometimes correct, often not. They're not bad attempt at it given that he was trying to provide scarcity ratings for so many issues. Also, more copies of these books have surfaced since the book was written.

 

1 - Very common

2 - Common

3 - More than average

4 Average 1000-2000

5 Less than average 200-1000

6 Uncommon 50-200

7 Scarce 21-50

8 Rare 11-20

9 Very rare 6-10

10 Unique or close to it

11 Non-existent: known to be printed but not known to exist
