How do you organise sets/mini series?

If you were to collect a mini series (say c.5 comics), and you also collected a set of variants which also ran the same number, how do you organise them?

 

Do you prefer to have each number together i.e. 1, 1a, 1b, 2, 2a, 2b etc.

 

Or do you prefer to have each set together i.e. 1, 2, 1a, 2a, 1b, 2b, etc.

 

Personally I am not sure. On a database having all the 1s, 2s, 3s together looks nice and organised, but visually having a set together also looks nice. So I am torn between the two. At the moment I have them in number order to match my database.

Option 1....it's a #letter afterall, making it that issue number.
