Secret Wars promo event info?

I mistakenly put this in the bronze comics section.

 

I'm really happy there's a Copper section as it sums up the begining and end of my collecting until I returned to collect Golden Age around 2005

 

Hey guys, one of the first comics I remember as a child was Secret Wars #1, and it was handed to me by Captain America himself. I was at a mall, and there was some sort if Secret Wars promo going on where people dressed up were passing out free Secret Wars #1s.

 

Now that I think about it, there might have been a mini "con" going on in the center of the mall, so maybe it was something Marvel did at cons?

 

Anyway, I'd love any information on this promotion.

I wish I still had that comic, I remember later on thinking how worthless it was since it was signed Captain America.

 

1984/85ish? Mall was in somewhere in/near Rochester NY.
