Re-holdering an Old Label slab

......personally, I thought old labels were tight at 9.0 and above, and weak below that level.

From my Silver Age experience, in a general way, I agree with this statement. It seems like they always gave a grade lower on the high end stuff. A 9.4 old label was tight but often a 7.5 was a gift grade. It seems like they used 'bucket' grades more, categorizing with less focus on the specific grade. Example, anything stronger than Fine but not quite an 8.0 would be thrown into the 7.5 bucket. Anything NM and above would simply get a 9.4 . This could be the result of an overwhelmed staff with pressure to grade more quickly. I also think they saw less, perfectly flat books, and let some stuff go that today they would be more harsh on.

You can use the verification tool on their site to find out when it was graded.

Thanks

Now I just need to date gap the changes...anyone

Then always remember to buy the book not the slab.

Agree with Comicdey. We're in a tight CGC grading phase right now. This current phase started maybe a year ago or so? I've had stuff come back this year where I'm left scratching my head. I think the 2012 to 2014 period or so CGC was somewhat tight but pragmatic.
