It's almost like a phantom line a little higher than the final positioning of Buster's left hand. And I would be willing to bet that whatever photo reference Frank was working with, also displayed no thumb! Cause Frank knew more about hands... Or as much as Burne Hogarth. (Who after all did write the book on the subject), Neal Adams took finger art to new lengths, granted.

Or maybe he stuck it in his belly button, cause you can't see that either!
