X-men #23 1st series question

9 posts in this topic

Folks,

There is someone on eBay selling a cgc graded 9.0 copy of X-men #23. In the notes for the item he states that this particular issue was published with only one staple and that the cgc notes confirm that this is the case. Is this a true statement? Can anyone verify whether or not this issue was published with only one staple?

Thanks,

Dave

It only means that particular copy was manufactured with only one staple, it doesn't mean the entire print run rolled off the press with only one staple. It's not uncommon for a handful of books within a run of tens or hundreds of thousands to come through that way.

The concern with one-staple books was always that that there's more stress on the one staple than if there were two. It's only problematic if you open it. In the slab, it looks fine. However, if you're looking to resell, I personally would avoid a book missing a staple (especially at the price of a 9.0), and I gather others would too. If he's selling at a discount, that's probably why.
