Comic book corners

I have just got back into comics again and am just amazed bought about 100 and 95% have corners that have a little bit of roughness to them.

 

That said how much does that take away because it seems to me in terms of grading everything starts at a - unless you spend a good long time at the LCS looking for one without.

 

I have tried this but amazingly 3 LCS and none have issues where there are absolute perfect corners so what's going on and how do they get roughed up???

depends on how rough the corners are and what else is wrong with the book.

I've seen books with a soft corner and still get a 9.4... it wasn't excessive wear and the rest of the book looked good.

I just am amazed at how hard it is to find a book without any corner issues.

 

So again wondering what makes it happen.

There's probably 100+ different ways a corner gets roughed up.

It's the corner, so it takes the majority of impacts when books are handled

More handling = softer corners

Do you mean the corners in general, or the common bindery tears at the top and/or bottom of the spine?

They are on 95% of the comics i can find in store and on-line

 

Just seems crazy how can you get a good grade if they start out at a minus every time.

 

Unless they are literally hot off the press.
