Werewolf by night and damsels in distress

I just picked up some beautiful issues of WWBN and Man-Thing and noticed the many covers with a cowering damsel in distress. Was this a common bronze cover theme? To have the misunderstood beast with the heart of goodness?

I think it was a Mike Ploog trademark. Most all of his 70s Marvel monster work featured a woman in some form of danger...
