Four Color #178 - First Appearance of Uncle Scrooge - Pencil on the cover

3 posts in this topic

Hello All,

This Four Color #178 is a nice looking book but as you can see someone has traced the middle of Donald Duck in pencil. The first D in "Donald" has a mark where someone tried to erase it. So does the erasing count as Restoration and what does the pencil tracing do to value? Can the pencil be removed or does that count as restoration? I think its probably a 6.5 as it is now. Thanks guys

I wouldn't bother trying to remove the pencil, the kid that pencilled it in likely pressed hard enough to leave an imprint. The center fold, long corner crease, and outer edge tear cap that book at the 5.5-6.0 range anyway, so you're probably only losing .5 to the writing.
