So is spider Gwen dying down in popularity?

29 posts in this topic

With the initial appearance and first series she seemed to take the comic book world by storm, but now it seems like no one even talks about her anymore. Did her appeal wear off? Did her popularity take a hit when marvel decided to reboot her series at issue #1 again?

Marvel had no plans for the character originally but fan reaction led to the full series. There just isn't enough character there to make it a real compelling story. Besides they then bastardized the character by doing more Gwen themed characters and books which made people think it was all a gimmick to begin with.

Plus, it's still off in its own universe. That generally kills the long-term viability of any new character unless it's an established alternate-universe that people care about & read.

Yeah, but Gwen Poole is not Gwen Stacy. She would have used the name DEADGWEN, but that was already taken by the real 616 Gwen.

This is why Gwenpool works better than Spider-Gwen. Have to say Gwenpool is written better and has better artwork on the interiors.

the restarting of the numbering sure didn't help...Silk suffering some of the same things but at least she's being showcased in Spider-Women

Wait till this fall....another Marvel Now! reboot. lol

hope not all the titles get rebooted.

More than likely Star Wars will be immune but others I doubt won't be renumbered back to #1!!!!

SG is like Harley Quinn in the aspect that everyone was buying it but nobody was reading it.

Maybe they all finally read it and said "ecccch"

I would not say that. A lot of people buying Harley actually read it.

This year the only Spider-Gwen #1s that move at shows are the 1st series. Gwenpool has sold much better.

Harley is still the Queen of female characters from a sales perspective. It is not even close.

FWIW, if you want an interesting read, go flip through New 52 HQ #25.
