GRADE: FINE / VERY FINE

 

Comments: A glossy, tight, smooth comic. The deficits are about 15 stress lines on spine that are better seen when you have comic in-hand. Some edge wear on a small section of front cover plus light corner wear on top and bottom right side front cover corners. Above and to the right of the small DC circle on the top left corner is a white little line, which is a scuff from paper loss. Back cover left-corner area has a small greenish stain that runs through the top of some of the interior pages and top of interior pages - I believe this to be manufacturing. Back cover regardless is smooth and off-white and presents handsomely.

Condition: INCOMPLETE - THIS LISTING IS FOR THE FRONT COVER ONLY

 

Seller's Notes: A scarce if not hard-to-find Centaur Comics cover. Lew Glanzman action-packed scene.

 

This listing is for the front cover only (an incredibly cool one too). The cover has pieces out it including a big square chunk on top. One edge section is in tatters plus there are a few long tears going into the artwork. All in all this makes a beautiful presentation with wonderful gloss and the main image remaining fairly complete. While the cover is not brittle you still need to handle the edges with some care esp. the top left corner area.

Supple White Pages

 

This book has a newstand fresh feel and appearance. A tight, flat, high gloss, fairly sharp cornered and smooth covered book. The very minor faults are the faint stress lines on the spine. The black edges have some lack of sharpness on a small section of the front cover's top edge and on a smaller section on the back cover's bottom edge. There is a near invisible line on the M in the title with smaller similar stress lines on Cyclops, which you see better when you tilt the book in the light.

These 5 early 1970s DC comic books are all tight, complete, glossy, unrestored and superior looking for their assigned grades. When making my grade call I also include the back cover.

 

SUPERMAN'S PAL JIMMY OLSEN

(Years range from 1970 through 1972)

 

Issue # 131 - FINE PLUS / VERY FINE MINUS. Solid tight square bound book with very minor spine wear and off coloring on some of the black area of front cover. Covers are smooth and glossy. In pen someone wrote 6/4 in the J in JIMMY. Minor edge issues on front cover's right side. Supple off-white to barely white pages.

 

Issue # 138 - FINE PLUS / VERY FINE MINUS. Handsome book. An almost undetectable spine roll with a very slight warpness in the book. Glossy with supple off-white interior pages. A light but present large diagonal fold (like a storage impression) can be seen on book's covers. NEAL ADAMS and KIRBY partial photo cover.

 

Issue # 148 - VERY FINE MINUS. Handsome book. Minor discoloration and / or slight sun-shadowing on bottom of front cover. Back cover has 2 tiny tears. Off-white to barely white interior supple pages. NEAL ADAMS COVER.

 

Issue # 149 - VERY FINE / VERY FINE PLUS - Close to Near Mint Minus but for the front cover's edge area bottom right. Killer spine, super gloss on a supple white page beauty.

 

Issue # 151 - VERY FINE PLUS - Newstand fresh. Tight and glossy. Very minor wear. Supple white interior pages.

Year: 1973 Marvel - Bill Everett's last published art. Namorita and Betty Dean appearances. Everett cover, with Jim Mooney and Win Mortimer on interiors as well.

 

Comments: This book looks like you just bought it off the newstand today. Incredibly minor issues include smallest of creasings along the front cover's lower right edge area (behind Dr. Hydro's leg) plus there is a pressure line from the way this book was stored that creates the slightest of impressions running down the center of the book that is better seen in hand. A great pressing candidate.

BUGS BUNNY'S CHRISTMAS FUNNIES # 8 (1957) - Fine minus - A solid, glossy and handsome square bound book. Big crease with some paper loss in middle of spine by the T in GIANT. Also a big crease starting at the C in COMIC and going straight across to Bug's tail. Creases on bottom right front cover corner.

 

MARGE'S LULU and TUBBY in ALASKA # 1 (1959) - Fine - Nice looking with minor tear on bottom of square bound spine. Solid and flat high gloss front cover. Long crease running down the front cover that's almost parallel to the spine.

 

DAFFY # 15 (1958) - Fine Minus - Glossy with tiny piece of the corner missing on bottom right of front cover. Some spine wear. One page has a rip in the outside margin and some page corners are folded back.

 

MARGE'S TUBBY # 42 (1960) - Fine Plus Plus - Supple white interior pages with faint and minor wear. A bright, tight, clean and fresh looking book. The slightest of spine roles and very minor wear on spine area near roll.

Supple White interior pages.

Fantastic Bill Ward cover art with terrific interior art too.

 

GRADING COMMENTS: Gotta love this boxing sports cover! Great colors. I think it's by Ogden Whitney. Front cover presents like a Fine Plus with scuffing along the spine. Back cover has some edge chipping on the right side plus a small bottom right corner issue. A tight, glossy, supple comic and a tight centerfold.

Seller's Grading Notes: The front cover shows-off like a FN/VF comic. Foxing shows on both covers and their interior sides. Spine has some chipping, wear on edge and small splits along with a less than 1 inch top spine split. Back cover shows heavier foxing along the edges with a 1.5 inch tear on the left edge, which also shows lots of chipping. Solid, supple and tight centerfold. Covers are attached to both staples and immediate areas near it only.

Condition: VERY GOOD (wonderful eye-appeal)

Fairly supple Off-White to White interior pages.

 

GRADING COMMENTS: This is a tight-by-the-staples, glossy, sharp-looking and supple comic. 2 tight and clean staples on the outside with a tight centerfold on the inside. Bottom right cover corner is missing along with a similar chip out on the 1st interior page corner. A light fading foxing strip is on the right side edge of the front cover along with a bend and fold on the top right front cover corner. Small stain on the front cover too. The back cover shows nicely despite obvious fading spots and stains that appear intermittently on some interior pages. There is some red foxing manufacture bleed-through on the interior sides of both covers.

Good Girl Gothic Romance Art cover is a classic on this low print run from early 1970's DC.

 

This is a sharp, glossy and tight book. Minor spine creases (see top staple crease) and some light sun shadowing on the cover. The back cover has minor top edge wear due to the manufacturing overhang.

Rex Dexter, Patty O'Day, Zanzibar (George Tuska art) appearances. Only issue of the title. Briefer cover and art.

 

Seller's Notes: Tape along several sections of the spine, over staples and on the interior side of the back cover (used to cover a tear and little holes). The centerfold is detached from the bottom staple and the top CF staple was given a piece of tape for support. Old moisture damage is visible on the front cover esp along the spine, which caused some bleeding by one of Rex's boots. The interior pages are light cream to off-white and remain solid and supple. No loose pages. The front cover retains gloss and looks nice. This is a solid book with great interior art. A hard-to-find if not scarce issue.

 

This thick comic is 100% complete with no restoration (except as to the tape and other details noted above).

The fourth appearance of Iron Man, still in the clunky gold armor, is wrapped nicely in a Jack "King" Kirby cover.

SELLER'S NOTES: Attractive copy. Despite some old corner and edge moisture damage with general overall wear and tear this book remains solid, supple, glossy and still fairly tight. No loose pages and great reading throughout.

 

This comic is 100% complete with NO restoration whatsoever.

Seller's Grading Notes: This comic is 100% complete with no restoration. This a solid, tight and glossy comic. The comic presents higher grade than my assigned technical grade, however the bottom staple of the center-fold is detached and there is foxing/tanning on both interior cover sides. There is also a color breaking crease that intersects Parasite's torso. One edge of the centerfold page (mid-side right-side) is worn with a small hole (could be manufacturing but I cannot guess how that happened). The pages look nice but are not supple and yet not dry.

My Grading Comments: Tight glossy square-bound book; feels unread & presents newstand fresh. Tiny paper loss on the top and bottom of spine. Minuscule wear on bottom right corner of front cover. The back cover presents as nice as the front. The heavy staples used on this square bound book show a bit. This comic was never pressed.

LOT OF 4 MARVEL MONSTER / HORROR COMICS

 

FANTASY MASTERPIECES # 1 (1966) - FINE / FINE PLUS - Super tight and glossy with light general wear. Nice supple close to almost all-white interior pages. Tiny edge tears along with a tiny chip out on the edge. Some top and bottom spine wear.

 

ADVENTURE INTO FEAR # 10 with MAN-THING (1972) - VERY FINE MINUS - This classic key marvel looks almost newstand fresh. It has about 12 stress lines on the spine with a tiny little nick with paper loss on the top edge of the front cover above the AR in MARVEL. Super glossy, tight and smooth covers with the back cover nicer than the front. Supple close to all-white interior pages. This is a sharp looking book despite the issues.

 

MARVEL PREMIERE # 28 featuring The Legion of Monsters (1975) - VERY FINE MINUS - Looks & feels newstand fresh despite a spine ding and crease on the top area of the spine (below the 25 cents box), very small & light corner crease on bottom right corner, some very light edge wear. Supple close to all-white interior pages on a glossy, tight & smooth covered book. The back cover is beautiful.

 

MARVEL CLASSICS COMICS # 9 - DRACULA (1976) - FINE MINUS - Light general overall wear on both covers; likely from having been read several times. The book has a manufacturing miscut. Supple off-white interior pages.

Seller's Grading Notes: This comic is 100% complete and unrestored. Very solid, very tight, sharp, supple and glossy copy. There is a seamless 1/2 inch tear on the center right FC edge. There is some discoloration on the bottom edge of spine. Some mild creasing on FC. Nicer back cover buoys my grade call.
