Another eBay seller to be weary about .........

38 posts in this topic

I bought this book hoping for a true 9.8 book that I could send into CGC. Yes, the scan was small, but I thoguht I'd take a chance on it. It was shipped extremely fast (2-3 days) packaged decently, and the front cover of the book is absolutely stunning. It is 9.8 material like the seller says...

... However, the seller places his boards in the middle of the books rather than in the back. And he never mentioned the back cover in the auction details. It has several bends, as well as tears from the staples, knocking this book down to 8.0 or below. mad.gif

If you ever plan on buying from him, just make sure you ask for scans of the back cover before comitting. I am currently confronting him about it, and will see what he says.

I would never buy anything from a seller listing their raw books 9.6 condition and higher.

I was just taking a chance. I wanted a copy of this book anyway b/c I didn't have one, and thought I'd just take the risk of getting a potential HG book. The front cover is HG ... unfortunately that's not all that matters.

Why? confused-smiley-013.gif

Because if it's a key book, a lot of less informed Ebayers jack up the price thinking it's actually a 9.6 copy. I guess I was thinking more in the terms of pre-1976 books.

or wary.

That's why I'm not an English major. I don't give a $^# about spelling errors. Engineers are great students who can't spell words other than things most people wouldn't even care to spell out ... such as pneumonoultramicroscopisilivolcaniosis.

How was this jacked up though? An 8.0 is $18 in the OS. confused-smiley-013.gif I've never paid more than Guide value for a particular book on eBay, even in fairly high grade.

That's a good attitude. You might as well say "I want to look like an insufficiently_thoughtful_person."

Well, I've made 2 maybe 3 spelling errors in 4 months on the boards. Big deal. I've seen some board members make many more than that, so I'm not worried about looking like an insufficiently_thoughtful_person thumbsup2.gif

I do so all the time when I sell my new weekly books?

Like I mentioned above, I didn't mean to include moderns in that mix (since I stopped collecting them). I just feel like it's too bold of a statement to say my Captain America #100 is a 9.6 copy.
