CGC comic storage question. Where to find?

Was reading a thread (from 06) about not storing comics in a fire proof safe because of moisture. Staples had become rusted in slab. There was not really a resolution that I could find.

 

Can someone direct me to threads re: comics in safes, bank safety deposit boxes, etc. How to store comics safely, etc.

Did you learn anything useful? I am getting into collecting some more valuable books, and am interested to hear recommendations and best practices beyond "use bags and boards"!

 

When you drop $500+ on a comic book, what do you do with it??

There have been many threads about this problem.

 

The biggest solutions are not to use those types of safes or lots of silica desiccant to absorb moisture

I wouldn't recommend safes at all. A nice set of shelves in a cool dark room, and you are good to go.

A word of warning via the owner of my local safe store: Even safes with plenty of absorbent silica should be left open and aired out regularly. Otherwise, moisture and rusted staples could be a problem.
