Rainbow Effect on my new Sig Series

The effect is called a "newton ring." It is an optical effect (as I understand it) that occurs when the two different types of plastic are touching, causing the light to refract and make the "oil slick" effect. Two things are certain - (1) there is no moisture or anything that could damage the book and (2) it is a lot harder to get rid of with the new cases.

With the old cases, you could slip a piece of paper in between the two plastics and remove the effect pretty easily. Now, not so much. Experienced CGC collectors know it is no big deal. But those unfamiliar with the phenomenon do find it jarring and kind of scary.
