Batfans Unite: villains discussion.

6 posts in this topic

Hey all,

I'm building a list for the request of a competitive set for the 1st appearances of batman-related villains.

This would be a set that I could collect for life... I am more likely to win Powerball (which I don't buy a ticket for) than add Batman #1 into my collection, so it is a list that I will likely never complete... but a guy can dream :cloud9:

There are core characters and the multitude of "versions" of those characters and there are so many minor adversaries... or even those (like Cassandra Cain) who started out pretty bad but then filled roles like that of Batgirl... Harvey Bullock, corrupt to core - but is he a villain? Jason Todd as Red Hood?

So it's a list that is (and should) take a fair amount of time and consideration to build.

For example: Clayface.

Detective Comics #40 - Clayface

Detective Comics #298 - Clayface II: Matt Hagen

Detective Comics #478 - Clayface III: Preston Payne

Outsiders #21 - Clayface IV: Cassius Payne Birth

Batman #550 - Clayface V: Dr Peter Malley

Catwoman (vol. 3) #1 - Clayface VI: Todd Russell

Batman: Gotham Knights #60 -Clayface VII: Johnny Williams

Batman Incorporated #6 - The Clayface of Japan

How deep do I go... If you were going to add a set into this category, how deep would you want to go?

This is the list as I have it at the moment, and I would really love some feedback regarding characters to add, edit or remove. I'm not looking to rush the list and, if it does get added to the registry, books can always be added to lit later... but I am keen to start out with an initial request that is considered and beautiful for Batfans.

PS. If anyone would like to collaborate on the list, PM me your email and I will send you the link to the Google Sheet.

Detective Comics 469- Doctor Phosphorus

Detective Comics 405- League of Assassins (Were they known as something else in SA 215?)

Batman 345- Dr. Death

Thanks, I'll check these!

I wouldn't consider Copperhead or Ragdoll to be Bat villains.

Thanks re: CH & Ragdoll - I'll review.

Two of the most common collecting themes ever... a run of Amazing Spider-Man, and Batman first appearances...

No contest... Yet, there isn't a Bats 1st apps competitive set available in the registry. (Well, that I could find, at least).
