Books manufactured missing a staple...

How do manufactured missing staples affect book grades in general? Are they considered a wash because they are manufacturing "defects". Or will they pull the grade of a book down?

 

I assume it may be different for 2 staple and 3 staple books?

 

But in general if a 2 staple books came off the press with 1...how does that affect grading?

In my experience it doesn't affect the grade at all unless the book is otherwise in the NM range.

 

It does seem to affect the grade in the NM range and I am quite certain it keeps a book out of 9.8 - not sure if it keeps a book out of 9.6 on an otherwise perfect book.

I always thought the grade would be VG. I just think these are the VG's to go for.
