41 posts in this topic

My 1st submission (5 books) was via Express:

Batman #19 - Purchased as VF from Ebay, came back a 6.5 Blue Label.

X-Men #1 - 7.5 from Ebay, came back a 7.5 PLOD.

Tales of Suspense #40 - VF from Ebay, came back a 6.5 Blue Label

Avengers #4 - Described as no less than VF, with a chance at VF/VM, came back a 7.0 Blue Label.

Fantastic Four #6 - Described as VF+ with stain on back cover, came back a 6.0 Blue Label.

I only overpaid for the X-Men and FF issues.

My next "Standard" submittal was even worse.

Yeah my first one and even later submissions had some shockers. My only submission to "He who shall not be named" was a total disaster.

Don't be shy! Even if it is a restored Spider-man 30th Anniversary Edition graded at 0.5. I still wanna know the book and grades!

Where did you get the ASM from? Im sure you would have noticed it was a 3.0 if it was a stall. eBay?

During my early Ebay days, I was a total sap. I purchased the book for $190 thinking that it was probably not in 9.0 condition from the scans. I figured that even a fine would be o.k. When I received the book, I thought it was a dog. I was still hoping for a miracle 4.5 or 5.0, but nothing doing. What a joke. foreheadslap.gif

See, you dont follow procedure when submitting books to CGC. Here is my secret:

1. Wait for a full moon.

2. Bring books you will be submitting outside during full moon.

3. Hold them up to the moon, jump twice.

4. Yell to the CGC gods to show leniancy to your books.

5. Empty a Molson bottle as a token to the CGC gods.

6. Submit them within 24 hours.

Knowing my luck the light from the moon would damage the comic, i would accidently jump on the rest whilst holding one up and pour the contents of the bottle on my X-Men 11 crazy.gif

Action #84-purchased as NM+, came back as 9.2.

Action #98-purchased as NM, came back as 8.5.

Interesting side note. I believe I was the first person to list high grade Golden Age slabs on eBay with these two books. CGC had just opened its doors and everyone was taking a wait and see attidude about high grade gold. Both auctions did MUCH better than I anticipated, with several dealers bidding.

I remember in those early days of 2000, if you searched eBay for "CGC", maybe a dozen listings would come up.

My very 1st submission consisted of 8 books...which were 4 sets of doubles:

ASM 181 9.4/6.5

ASM vol.2 36 9.0/9.6

PPSS 1 9.2/9.6

MTU 141 9.2/9.2

I didn't inspect the back covers of these books...therefore was very surprised by the 6.5, 9.0 & the MTU 141 results.

The 2nd time I submitted books, I just added 3 books to the submission my LCS was sending out.

I was pleased with the results:

MTU 53 9.4/9.6

IF 15 9.6

I then joined the collector's society at the Toronto con...submitted the 3 books & a magazine:

ASM 77 9.2

ASM 140 9.4

MTU 1 8.5

Spectacular Spider-man 2 9.2

After that...I began pre-screening. thumbsup2.gif

I have a short box of batman in the 200's hand picked over time....well my first batch I picked the best ones out, and they came back with nice grades.....problem is I keep looking thru the box of leftovers and keep thinking they are ok (the good ones are gone now) but I know they will get 8.5's. I will send them in with a 9.2 minimum and see what happens.....I think that prescreening is the way to go now.
