Dave Finch will generally not take a commission list, rather as you approach his table, he'll usually have a price list.  "Headsketch - $X, Bust - $Y, Full Figure - $Z".  You let him know what you want and he'll bust it out in front of you.

This method is a double-edged sword.  One the one hand, you don't need to check back throughout the con to see if the artist has finished your commission or not.  This process can be annoying when you hear "yours is next" 12 times between Friday and Sunday and come Sunday evening, you get a "awwww...I didn't quite get to it".  :boo:  However, as fast as Dave is, his line tends to move pretty slowly as a result of this method.  In years past, he'll do a sketch, knock out a few signatures, do another sketch, and so on.  My suggestion would be to pick a day to devote to getting this done and get to the con as early as possible.  Stake out his table and even if it's empty (he's usually not there when the con opens), just hang out.  When he shows, you'll be in and out in no time.  You may wait by an empty table for an hour or two, but you're possibly saving yourself a 3-4 hour wait later.

Of course, I haven't seen him in about 2 years.  It's possible he's updated his system.  But this is how he operated for years.

just got back from terrific con and got a David finch sketch of Wonder Woman.  it unfolded just as described above.  he was not there when the con opened, about two hours later he showed up and I just happened to be standing next to him.  I was second in line and he knocked out a cover of ww 36 in about 30 minutes.  david finch was super nice and his sketches are extremely detailed.  the con itself was not busy.  I would Never try to get this done at a big con like nycc.  there were about 20 people in line for a sketch  when I left.  the art was beautiful and detailed.  it was a great experience.  the con was short on graded comic books but the artist alley was not too crowded with many artists with short wait times.  I got a wolverine sketch done as well as one of denarys for my son.

cheers,
