Hawthorne High School Comic Con

The comic book industry has been a large part of American culture for at least the past seven decades. In honor of this on-going tradition, the Hawthorne High School Cartooning Club is starting to create a tradition of its own. Following in the footsteps of last year's convention, the club will now be holding an annual Hawthorne High School Comic Book Convention every year on the first or second Saturday in May. This year's convention will take place on May 7, 2005.

Students from grades 9-12 will be using this event as a fund-raiser for the art program at Hawthorne High School, under their advisors and art teachers, Danielle Russo and Allan Rosenberg. Last year's convention helped the department to purchase new equipment to be utilized in every type of art class. Mr. Rosenberg served as the founder and co-organizer of the Ramapo High School Convention for many years, and continues to work as the "Talent Coordinator" for Big Apple Conventions in New York City. Attendees to the Hawthorne Con can expect the same amount of professional talent and special features as any of the New York conventions.

Celebrating 70 years of comic books, this year's convention will feature creators from the Golden Age to creators from the Modern Era. Scheduled to make appearances are "big name" comic creators like:
