Batman 22 Rust on staple 0

Anybody know if the staples could be cleaned or replaced and if it would be worth it?  I'm debating trading for this book but the staple has me a bit worried. Thanks for any advice

Replacing the staple gets into the range of restoration, and would impact the value of the book.  I am not sure if cleaning a staple would have the same affect. I have read before that rust does not seem to have a big negative impact on grading. Staining from the staple on the paper would affect the grade more than the staple, depending on extent. CGC seems to really hammer staining

 

I would personally leave it alone.  Unless it is doe by someone qualified, you are more likely to damage the book, than anything else.  If the rust bothers you that much, I suggest looking for a different copy (I know that issue can be hard to find).
