I completely appreciate the cautious majority. If not for them there would be less deals. I really enjoy the "avoid eBay" threads.

and less drama;) I removed my post from the "don't any of you people have an emergency fund?" thread because it was not dramatic enough"

I understand the gambler mentality perfectly, some of my closest friends were gambler types. I've never put a dime on a craps table. Penny slots are the closest I ever get to gambling. Once they no longer had $2 black jack tables, I quite playing that, too;)

Then again, I do have an emergency fund, lol.

Boring, but it's my persona;)

Assuming that a new member who posted nice books at nice prices is automatically a scammer makes you seem ignorant. But what's new, huh?

While it may seem suspicious on the outside, I did not get the feeling that its a scam. None of the books listed/purchased were "too good to be true" deals. Just good deals.

If its a scam, then it'll be revealed shortly. If not, then I feel I made a good purchase.

I guess you're just looking for board fodder to complain about....par for the course

I think it's more risk/reward re the profit, Brock. Some people ...most probably you, are willing to take more risk for potential profit.

Some of us are more cautious, or less profit oriented. I'm not saying there is necessarily anything wrong with it, Different personas

I think some people are getting way too sensitive about everything

It is the risk/reward profile to a certain extent. It also helps that I don't consider $200 a risky bet, so I don't mind.

As for relying on my CC for protection, of course I do. Why wouldn't I? They make plenty of money off of my purchases and offer up a "zero fraud protection" policy. Why wouldn't anyone take advantage of this? It's not like I'm filing fraudulent claims, in fact, I've only had to file one in like 7 years.

Like some, I'm just not as cautious and prefer to not live scared....

Oh come on, Jeff never said the guy was a scammer. Suspicious? Of course, but to call Jeff ignorant and then say essentially the same thing he did in the next sentence is a bit disingenuous at the least.

I can see both sides have a point but attacking someone because they have the audacity to disagree with you is well, par for the course for you.

So people hit the BIN on seemingly good deals (because, cool books) and then when it's suggested that they might get scammed, they simply proclaim, "doesn't matter, I'm covered"

What they fail to realize is that they are still supporting and enabling the scammers. Yeah, they are protected and the CC company will bail them out, but the scammer runs away with the money as well.

I've seen this play out a few times on the boards. Why do people support potential scammers?

Confused,

Jeff

Another way to look at it is that the risk takers remove the risk from the market for the benefit of those who might make an errant purchase. If it's a scam, Columbia will probably out the guy for the better of the community. Economies are all encompassing. They don't only have one side. Ying and yang.

It's important to seperate personal preferences from 'right and wrong'.

Of course he did, just not saying "Hey, "XXX" guy is a scammer!" direct. He might as well say it, b/c it was absolutely implied, cool books and all.

And it is ignorant to automatically assume everyone is a scammer. Usually the scammers are fairly obvious. And like I said, I did not get that impression. There's always the possibility I am wrong and if that's the case, it'll be revealed rather quickly (like Roy said).

At the end of the day, its my choice to take a chance on someone, not yours or Jeff's or whomever's. If I'm wrong, then I hope I'm covered. If not, its a relatively cheap lesson. It isn't like he's offering up an AF 15 5.0 for $5k.

Now back to your regularly scheduled complaining...

If I'm wrong, then I'm wrong. I won't whine and blame others. I'll own it because that's what men do

People;) :makepoint:

I think most of the "kvetching" is not blaming, just warning...and by others, if someone lies and rips you off, how do you not blame them?

But I do agree that except for our cowboys (they seem to mostly start with "B"...) that people should be more cautious. Think of what you tell your kids...remember that "stranger danger" thing?

I do not however, condone the torture or teasing of innocent newbies.
