Okay Who's Going to Bag This One?

Guaranteed that book will be relisted for sale shortly at probably around $1,500+.

Why do you say that? Because you think the buying price was a steal? Or because the buyer is someone known for buying and flipping?

...it's got the first appearance of the Living Laser too. What more could you ask for?"

That was sarcasm, not hype!

Just like this from my listing for Spider-Man 65:

"You are bidding on a copy of Marvel Comics' Amazing Spider-Man 65 from October, 1968 featuring an appearance by Daredevil's Foggy Nelson! No Silver Age Foggy Nelson collection is complete without this one, so don't miss out! Poor Foggy... first he can't even get the time of day from his secretary - and future strung-out porn star - Karen Page, now he's getting no respect from me! This copy is just back from CGC and has been graded Very Fine CGC 8.0!"

See, sarcasm can be fun!

Hey Joe, WELCOME TO THE BOARDS!!! hi.gif

Just because its a one of kind item that people will be after and this makes it a perfect candidate for a quick flip. Looking at the winning bidders buying activites, he buys baseball cards, etc so I'm guessing comics are not a main collecting focus.

1K - let's see a 9.8 Avengers #34 or a nice mid-grade Avengers #1. foreheadslap.gif

9.8 Avengers 34 is hard to find, mid-grade Avengers 1 is pretty easy to find. confused-smiley-013.gif

True - but value is largely a reflection of supply and demand - I imagine there are many more collectors demanding a mid-grade Avengers #1 than a 9.8 Avengers #34. The nose bleed prices on ultra HG copies of otherwise

unremarkable books is a reflection of both the deep pockets of the few that are chasing them and "the greater fool" theory of speculative investment.

I can't claim to know which book will be the better investment in either the long or short term - but The value of even a mid-grade Avengers #1 has been "proven" over the years - whereas the history of double digit multiples for 9.8 SA books is fairly tenuous.

Very true, possibly. I was only trying to point out that the choice was not quite as blindingly obvious as you made it out to be. Also, for someone who plays in the high-end of the market involving 9.8 SA Avengers, and can drop $1000+ for a copy, a mid-grade Avengers 1 would probably not be a satisfactory purchase. So perhaps a case of comparing apples to oranges?

A perfectly shaped beautifully polished but somewhat flavorless Red Delicious Apple to a slightly blemished but incredibly sweet and juicy orange, but your point is taken.
