SA horror anthology with decidedly 50's Art.,pretty cool, especially ghosts vs Nazis and a giant octopus-like serpentine thing stuck into the legend of the Marie Celeste. Clear, clean art style, good figurework, easy to follow. kav
Readcomix
Shock Suspenstories #11 Packed with four home runs in classic EC twist ending style, all of which really worked. But "In Gratitude" in particular really worked. It should be required reading for current Marvel writers. I don't think racism has been addressed this well since in comics. Classic 'blood is thicker than water' story, with the true meaning of that phrase; powerful bonds formed in wartime during battle.

Readcomix
I just read Jonah Hex Two-Gun Mojo collected edition. Fun stuff! Lansdale clearly cares about the character. And he's got that classic Clint-era western dialogue down to a tee!
Gaard
I'm about halfway through the collected Elfquest by the Pinis. These stories beg to be an animated series. Readcomix

grayzr
Currently reading Y: The Last Man. 9 issues in and completely hooked. Cant believe I never read this series. Great art, fantastic story telling and most importantly compelling characters. After reading this series I am curious about Saga.
Ken Aldred
Very consistent series, well worth seeing through all the way. Brian K Vaughan is an excellent writer. I haven’t read Saga, but Pride of Baghdad and Ex Machina are good reads as well.
Readcomix
Grimm Tales of Terror v. 3 #5 Bought it for the creepy cover (1 of 5 variants, but this one jumped out) but just read it and it's vintage EC storytelling, complete with twist ending. Wow! Loved it!

Ken Aldred
DeMatteis was one of my favourite writers at that time, and some of Zeck's best-ever work there. Edited June 4, 2017 by Ken Aldred STORMSHADOW_80

Mighty Hal
I've just finished Dark Horse's TPB The New Deal by Jonathan Case. Set in the 1930's, the hero is a slightly shady white bellhop, the heroine is a mostly-honest black maid, and the eye appeal is a happily larcenous rich hottie, all involved in a crime caper against the baddie. Characterization is a little weak but the pages go by quickly and the story is fun. The racial element is present, but not overplayed. Case's artwork is gorgeous, but it's all digital. This was fine for me as a reader, sad for me as an original art collector. I'd have enjoyed getting a page or two from this graphic novel.
F For Fake
Finally got around to reading Morrison's "Nameless", and I loved it! Not sure if I got it entirely, probably needs a second read, but it definitely scratched that sci-fi/occult horror itch, with beautifully grotesque art from Burnham. Readcomix
Harbinger #1 from 1992 Holy cow, if the rest is like this, I missed out. A lot of Shooter's leadership watch at Marvel I absolutely hated, but this stuff is right there with his Avengers and LSH output as a writer. Interesting editorial by him too, in that he derides gimmickry such as 5 variants as blatant greed, yet thinks flip books are cool. I guess comics gimmickry is like porn; you know it when you see it. That said, I like how he actually gave a rat's arse that his company's early issues were trading well on the back issue market while X-Force #1 was everywhere and not valuable. Kind of refreshing to see a publisher understand that collectors and their instinct are good for his business model. Do I want the rest of this run for reading? Shooter's Pre-Unity Valiant is excellent. Go for it. Goes downhill quickly when the company loses him. Edited July 1, 2017 by Ken Aldred
