Fiction Illustrated #3, Byron Preiss 1976

CHANDLER: RED TIDE by Jim Steranko, 127 pages

VFNM, absolutely killer copy.  They are never this nice.  Bright pages unlike most copies which are tanning.  You won't find a nicer one.

Considered groundbreaking, and highly influential, it is Steranko's longest self-contained graphic storytelling work. It is some of Steranko's best work in any medium. Hard to find and much harder in this condition! The reprint to be released (at some point by Dark Horse) will be computer colored.

$75  SOLD!

Next up is the auto-biographical Graphic Prince of Darkness that Steranko self-published, designed and produced in 1997. This book is full of art that had never been released before or since including:

Pencils to a never published story in the "Stroke of Midnight"-style that was intended for Marvel

Original cover to Tower of Shadows #1 that was never published

Storyboards for Coppola's Dracula

and many more... and a ton of unbelievable and outrageous biographical material. This is a must-own for any Steranko fan.  When released, this flew completely under the radar and was missed by most Steranko enthusiasts.

This is a straight-up NM copy.  Fantastic, unread condition.

This is a copy of the super rare STERANKO ON CARDS, first 1960 printing. SIGNED by Jim Steranko.

Entire 102 page book was designed, written and illustrated by Steranko when he was only 22 years old. Includes Steranko photo on cover. This book is legendary among card magicians and very sought after.

This book is in fine condition. Pages are very nice. It was printed with a clear plastic front and back cover and a plastic comb binding. Clear plastic is turning darker in some areas. Plastic comb is broken in one spot, but doesn't affect readability.  This is the only reason I wouldn't grade as VF.

Super scarce.

In 1962, Steranko published STACKED DECK (as part of Genii magazine), a 20 page book of revolutionary card magic that was written, designed, illustrated and photographed by him.

In 1964, he upped the ante with STERANKO'S WORLD OF ESCAPES (part of Genii Magazine). 47 pages written, designed, photographed and illustrated by Steranko. Yes, it's true that Steranko influenced Kirby to create Mister Miracle.

These books are super rare, needless to say. Highly sought after by hardcore Steranko collectors.  I'm going to sell these books as a pair:

1962 issue: Fine+ condition, flat and glossy with beautiful pages.  Has small spine splits at top and bottom.

1964 issue: Fine+ condition, flat and glossy with beautiful pages.  Has small abrasion at top of front page.

Interior pages are brighter than shown in the photos.  The glare from the reflection makes it difficult to photograph.  The covers are scanned with my flatbed scanner.

$175 for this pair of rare books.  REDUCED TO $149 FOR THE PAIR!

How about this one...

The earliest biography/interview ever done on Jim Steranko. Featured in a scarce, limited print-run magazine well prior to his Harvey and Marvel comic book years, and mentions pre-Harvey comic book work! Discusses his magic career up to that point in-depth. Biography is two and a half pages long. Lots of information you'll never find anywhere else. I believe this magazine features the first photograph of Steranko in a national periodical. Magazine is complete and in NM condition. Shown below is a portion of the interior.

The most ardent Steranko collectors not only don't have this book, they don't even know it exists:

This is a copy of the super rare crime magazine featuring Jim Steranko on the cover posing as a criminal packing a .38 caliber pistol holding a hostage by the neck. Circa late 1960s / early 1970s.  Magazine is complete and in VF condition.  Cover is complete and attached.  No loose pages and no writing except for small numbers at top of front cover, likely an arrival date used by the magazine seller.  Has a couple small tears at spine and some light toning to white front cover.  Very clean and flat!  RARE magazine.  Have Jim sign it!  I blacked out the title, but rest assured, the book is in uniformly VF condition.
