SquareChaos
As an FYI, this is the only information I'm able to find on the CGC site, there may be more somewhere but this is all I found: https://www.cgccomics.com/services/comics_we_grade.asp Quote The CGC holder is made of state-of-the-art materials and is designed to meet the needs and demands of comic book collectors. There are some comic books, however, that we cannot encapsulate due to size. We cannot certify any Treasury Sized Comics. There may be other comic books that we cannot certify. Exclusion of an item from this text does not guarantee certification. Please remember that no floating items can be encapsulated with the comic book (i.e. Certificates of Authenticity, Pedigree COA's, free-floating 3-D glasses, poly-bags). Poly-bagged comics must be taken out of the poly-bag before being graded.

For some reason I thought they were told something about penetration as well, but their point was that they were told it was up to individual graders. You're referring to this, right? "We talked to the cgc rep there in charge and were told ultimately it's up to the grader." That's a misreading of what the CGC rep said - it's not up to the individual grader to decide which books can & cannot be slabbed (which would imply that one grader might grade & slab something another grader wouldn't). The decision is made by CGC's head modern finalizer, Shawn Caffrey, and then enforced by the entire grading team. deadleg

Because Company must still receive, track and examine each rejected item, fees for Services shall not be refunded for such rejected items. That is standard boilerplate legalese. And does that mean they'll still charge you a grading and encapsulation fee on such a returned book? That seems odd. I'd personally like to see a larger section on their site with more information on what type of material may result in a book being returned. Another neat feature would be keeping a list on their website of 'banned books' that they won't grade. Especially if they keep associated fees. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying this makes CGC terrible or anything of that nature (I see a lot of that on these boards). This is just an area where there is confusion, and I still am of the opinion that their message here is weak and confusing and seems to spread by word of mouth. They're a big enough company that they shouldn't run by word of mouth. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and assume these type of issues lead to internal discussion on their part about how they may better handle such occurrences. Even if they post something to their website that is as vague as "We reserve the right to refuse to encapsulate material that we deem offensive due to: nudity, pornography, racism [...]" ...that would be a good beginning in my opinion. TheRealVenom
Let me clarify my experience. my friend subbed a savage dragon signed by Larson at fan expo Canada. The girl running the cgc booth, Molly I believe, said she knew cgc had an anti porn policy. But there was a difference between art and porn. she told us she was unsure about this cover but ultimately it would be up to the individual grader. 2 weeks later he received an email stating it would not be graded and it was considered porn. Ie fluids and the inner workings of some body parts shown. Book was returned raw and his account was credited accordingly. So again, No, CGC will NOT grade this book. Just looking at the cover you can clearly see what makes this porn and the sex criminals book art. It's the same as comparing hustler to playboy (not that I would know anything about that )
