I have found Flickr to be a good alternative to Photobucket. It's fairly similar in terms of organization of photos. I have found it to perform much faster. It also allows you to select photo size when using the share feature.

I'm going to work to get my photo size down much smaller and then upload them directly to the boards as they use a CDN here which should help.
