I was just about to say that they might  

some might be production etc. I don't see anything wrong with it other than the spine/corners, it's just they seem to be "serious" blow-out's and I don't know if they're "production flaws"

I've bought two copies of this book and both of the copies have the exact same rips so it might be a production error (then again, maybe I've been unlucky). Anyways, thanks for the response!
