Doctor Solar Gold Key #2 set (continued) [CLOSED]

A number of high grade issues remain available from the Dr. Solar #2 registry set.  The list prices are firm, so there's no need to haggle, as my very best price is available to everyone up front.  Payments are accepted by check, money order, or PayPal, and time payments may be arranged in advance of purchase for large buys.  Shipping is $14 for up to 4 books in the US - other locations will be a bit extra.  There are no returns, unless damage somehow occurs to the slab despite my bomb-proof shipping.

Disclosure: None of these comics was pressed under my ownership, or to my knowledge beforehand.

  • Doctor Solar #1
  • cgc 9.4 ow/w
  • $4250 with shipping and insurance free to the US

Topped by only a single 9.6 in the CGC census (the Pacific Coast copy), this is an exceptional example of the first Gold Key superhero comic.  The cover art is a spectacular painting from Richard Powers, a member of the Science Fiction Hall of Fame for his book cover art, and is one of the great Silver Age comic book covers period, let alone from '62 at the dawn of the age.  Published 55 years ago, the book looks virtually brand new, with only a tiny fuzzing of the upper left corner of the front cover and two tiny spine stress lines keeping it from near mint plus.

Another insanely cool Richard Powers cover painting.  The atomic bomb explosion is designed to appear so incendiary that it tore the cover!  This top census copy sports snow white page quality, razor sharp edges and perfect cover registration, so as our friends at ComicLink might say, it's likely the finest example known.  The only high grade sale recorded by GPA in the past 3 years was an 8.5 for $600.

So scarce in high grade, there are no sales of 9.6 copies recorded in GPA, and the last 9.4 sale was 7 years ago.

Yowza!  Needless to say for this grade, the top edge of the front cover is perfectly straight and flawless in person, but appears different in the scan from the shadow cast by the inner well.

From the same collection as the top census #16.  Topped in the CGC census by a lone 9.8 copy, this is one of three in 9.6.
