Comic pressing question

Hey everyone,

This might be a silly question but I recently got a book where pretty much the entire cover is white. I want to get it pressed, but I’m curious how people determine which creases will come out since you can’t easily tell which ones are “color breaking”. They all kind of just look the same.

You can tell by seeing whether the crease is smooth or has some roughness associated with it. It may take proper lighting and angles to see this but even on a white cover a cb crease with show up as a rough line rather than a smooth continuous indent. A cb crease has broken the surface of the cover rather than just bending it so it should be apparent upon careful observation.

Look at the creases from the inside of the cover. In many cases the inside part of the cover will have writing or advertisements. See if the creases leave a white line through these. If they do, it would be considered a color breaking crease.

Agree with above.  Also I've learned from pressing for a number of years that deep creases/lines, like trace lines, can be pressed out by pounding (not rubbing) the inside for a while with a firm eraser on a no2 pencil before pressing the book.  Each type of crease is unique so it is hard to tell which ones will come out, but if you check for the gloss and roughness like was said already, it can help give you an idea at least.  But I've been surprised both ways.
