Daredevil film is a bust.......will you still buy DD back issues?

First, as FF and others have pointed out, DD is going to be a

substantial financial success overall. Very few movies make a profit

in theatres; any studio will be ecstatic if a movie breaks even

before it is released on video/DVD. I used to work for a well known

studio that never made a cent from theatre revenues but has become

very successful through video sales, TV rights, merchandise, ... DD

has been an extremely successful experiment by any reasonable measure,

not only by being profitable in its own right but also, perhaps more

importantly, because it has increased awareness about the Marvel brand.

Personally, I had never read a Spiderman comic book before the movie

(always thought the character sounded really boring). After watching it,

however, I suddenly understood the appeal and why many of you are

collecting SA Marvels. Likewise, I had never heard of Daredevil in advance

and would never have considered opening one of the comic books. Maybe

it was because of my low expectations that I was positively surprised, but

I really liked the movie. The more of these movies Marvel can put out

without losing too much money, the more interest the company is going

to attract from the general public and the better the comics industry will

be off.

I think the fact that even though it's barely selling very many tickets, that the fact that it's still #9 overall in the box office last week..shows how few people are going to movies right now. I think it would've done a lot better in a different month, February is usually a bad month for movies.

Haven't seen it yet - the trailers turned me off. But have a 45 inch TV and Dolby Digital surround setup so will be a fair assessment.

Pov, being that you are a man of impeccable tastes (except for that whole "pre-code" thing), I'm sure I can save you a little time and a little money when I say: stay far, far away from this movie. I mean, I understand the desire... it's a comic book movie, yadda yadda... but stay far, far, FAR away from this steaming pile of cinematic doo-doo. Obviously you have a living brain, you seem to have your faculties about you, you're not Bug, you're not even Greggy... and in the interest of keeping yourself in such condition (Vf-), stay far, far, far, FAR away from that movie.

Ahhh Major - you see - it is the analysis (even post-theater mode) that lets my brain remain virile! It will cost me about $2.50 to rent it when it comes out. I must consider that quantum sufficit for the learning experience. Otherwise I can NEVER offer an aesthitic opinion of the film! grin.gif

BINGO! Daredevil opened very big and dropped off fairly fast. But it reached 100 million which is only a bomb for those recent few mega-budget disasters that gross only 20 or 30 million. Worldwide film rental will equal N America. Then, there's TV, cable, and of course DVD/VHS.

Daredevil will not lose money and is far from a financial disaster...even though it apparently was lacklustre (I havent dragged myself out to see it yet.)
