The Official Conquest of the Planet of the Apes thread

Issue # 16 concludes the "Escape" storyline with this dramatic cover of Zira running from her persecutors.

And of course at the end of this issue we get to meet baby Milo (AKA Ceasar).

Don'n worry little monkey...you get to conquer the world when you grow up!

Ain't he cute?

Issue # 15s cover always seemed odd to me since I figured the apes would not like the water. But what other cover can boast an ape and a giant squid fight in front of a scantily clad woman? confused-smiley-013.gif

C'mon, Jay. This is a common theme. Think pre-code horor. Think Ziff-Davis. 893scratchchin-thumb.gif

Yeah, you're right. Just a bizzare cover for this series.

Egad! Over 100 views and it looks as if just you and Bounty are the only fans of this thread!

Got an early nod from October_fire but I guess he's been too busy trying to keep ahead of Redhook in the grading contest. poke2.gif

Anybody else enjoying this thread or am I just making a monkey out of myself? tongue.gif

....and failing miserably! frown.gif I like this thread, I had never seen any of these covers before. Anyone know of a site that lists all the Curtis/Marvel mags with cover pics? Is there a thread that shows them? I am particularly interested in the horror stuff, but I am not sure where to start.

Slightly OT, OF Sorry no site info...but I have used these two guides and found them most informative although prices listed are now obsolete; they are used just for run info and reference.

ANY Mag that is 9.8 is just... cloud9.gif

Is this what you wanted to see?

I had forgotten about this splash by Pat Broderick, very cool!

That's Pat Broderick? His normal comic work doesn't come anywhere close to this quality...

His early stuff was very nice. He did some backup work in a few of the Atlas Comics that were really beautiful. Also did some real nice stuff in a few issues of Deadly Hands of KungFu. Hit the skids by the late 70s imo, when he was getting regular work. Most of his early stuff I remember being inked by Terry Austin or himself, which probably helped.

I'm familiar with his Atlas/Seaboard work and agree some of it is quite nice in comparison to his later work. But still...it wasn't close to approaching the quality of this Apes piece...

Issue 17 starts off the Conquest of the Planet of the Apes with some outstanding art again by Alfredo Alcala.

Also in this issue, Caesar gets pi$$ed!

Issue 18: things start to heat up as Caesar learns how humans treat his fellow apes...

Again Alcala art shines within this large black and white format. Here are some random face shots from throughout this issue, nice linework IMO!

Caesar chooses his name in this ish also...

Issue 19 is another fav cover of mine, nice colors and the addition of an eye to every other skull is a nice eerie touch! thumbsup2.gif

This issue is also neat as Lightsmith finally (to his dismay) finds the "Psychedrome"!

And we get to see the "Winged Monkey Demons" Wheeee!
