Until we see the shape of the book, it will be hard to investigate/hypothesize the actual events. If it is all beat the hell-- ok-- someone was using it. If it is like new-- newer than when your grubby little kids hands were in charge-- it was a replacement perhaps.

Or your memory is for SPOON and it has nothing to do with Jughead at all.
