Possibly an editor sorting out their idea of a pacing/storytelling problem?

 

comic art shouldn’t need direction arrows telling you which way to read the story, as evidenced in the uncovered art.

To keep it with the rest of the originals as it passed through the production process, I would assume. Using a separate board would presumably mean it would need to be set aside and kept away from the production path, lest someone grab the wrong thing for print.

And of course because the original is a byproduct of the actual final product (the printed book).
