Two questions about this 30 cent variant??

5 posts in this topic

First question? How much does the smudge on the cover downgrade?? It seems this was done right after printing,(the V showing yellow), so does this matter?

Second?? With the back being off center, how much does this downgrade?

Thanks in advance!! Higghawker

If that is a production defect, then it should't down grade it much. If however, and it looks like color fade, or water damage, it'll shock you how badly CGC downgrades for water damage!

None - CGC grading is primarily based on structural integrity of the book. Basically all "QP" (centering) does is give some of the forumites another category to critique high grade books and declare that "all 9.x's are not created equal" - from what has been opined about on these boards in the past, all an off center cover does is keep the book out of the elite high grades (9.9 maybe and definitely out of 10.0)

So where did you pick this up? 893scratchchin-thumb.gifdevil.gif

Thanks Darth,

I picked this copy up in an auction lot!! I wish I could tell if it is water or printing damage?? To myself it looks like it happened at printing(of course thats what I want, so?????)? Any ideas on how to really know??

I'm sure you've already done this but open the cover up and hold it up to the light - inspect the area around the "fade" and see if the translucency of the paper is different - tought to explain without holding it in front of you. look for tell tale signed of warping, difference in degree of transparency from other comparable sections of the cover. That really could be one sweet copy 893crossfingers-thumb.gif
