Is Subby a Villain?

i've always been confused by the label on FF #6

 

"First Marvel Villain Team-Up - Doctor Doom and Sub-Mariner"

Sometimes he's a villain, sometimes he's not. In FF #6 he was a villain. His beef with humanity is that they're trying to take over the earth's resources, which has negative repercussions on his undersea race of aquatic peoples. But he can often be objective and fights with the FF when the interests of his race are aligned with theirs.

Which is quite often. Then he's a hero.

 

When he does stuff like try and take Mr. Fantastic's girl, (now his wife) - then he's the villain.

i find some of those early FF covers absolutely hilarious - with Subby running off with Invisible Girl all the time and the rest of the FF trying to save her.
