Your thoughts, please,on my new grading system

2 posts in this topic

I've een trying to buy books off a variety of on-line sights where the sellers, for the most part are not collectors. Many collections are caled Good or Very good, without the sellers meaning OS grades.

To save myself wasted trips,I've come up with a grading system for non collectors. Please feel free to offer any improvements or criticisms.

Catagory 1-Books were read once and stored in a manner meant to preserve them, bags, boxes ect

Catagory 2- Books were read a few times and then stored in similar manner

Catagory 3-Books were read a few times and put away with no care.

Catagory 4- Books were well read and show signs of wear

Catagory 5- Books are twentyfive years old(for example) and show it.

By explaining ahead of time that very few older collections fall into catagories 1 and 2,and most fall into 4 and 5,I find I'm getting more honest descriptions and am letting the people know prior to my inspections that they don't have a goldmine in their basement.
