ideas for finding donations to help underserved children

Hi everyone!

My name is Roxanne and I am somewhat of a comic book fan.  My brother had a great X-Men collection when we were growing up and my first comic book purchase was V for Vendetta No. 1 (unfortunately my baby sister destroyed it).  Anyhow that was nearly 40 years ago and I am now helping my 14 year old daughter get books for her nonprofit Small Things Matter www.smallthingsmatter.org.  STM's mission is to help children help other children.  We do this in two ways,  a crafting for charity program where we help children craft items for children's hospitals and homeless shelters and a literacy program where we provide books to underserved youth.  Till now we have only been giving out books, but at our school-wide distribution at a Title 1 school in MD the other day I had many kids (mainly boys, though I did have a few girls too) asking for comic books.  So now I am on a hunt to get those for the kids.  Reading is reading and I know how popular comics are and always will be.  Do any of you have any ideas for how to get donations of comic books?  I can offer a letter of acknowledgement for tax purposes and can pick up comics if they are a reasonable distance away (NY, VA, DC, MD).  Thanks for your help!
