From fantastical superhero to lush Xela, Schomburg certainly...evolved. While you can trace that through his superb comic work, it is more strangely evident in his artistry on two different titles for Ned Pines and Better Publications, Everyday Astrology and Your Prophecy.  Never considered a pulp, but pulp like in length with no overhang and better production values. Astrology was pretty popular from the turn of the century on, and I assume this title was almost equally split between male and female readership.

Some are familiar with the cover work of the brothers, Alex and August, on the pulp Flying Aces, starting in the 30's. But Everyday Astrology was Alex's own gig, a steady monthly which ran from May 1937 to December 1952.  Your Prophecy was an annual.  For most of that time, except for a few issues in the beginning and a year or two at the end, Schomie was responsible for the cover and a handful of extraordinary detailed interior illustrations (black and white).

So here's a different side of Schomburg.

Everyday Astrology Dec. 1938.  Schomburg was into Art Deco at the time, and it shows.  $25    SOLD

84 pgs. Stapled squarebound, not glued.  Nice spine.  Very Supple, OW-W (that's phone shadow towards lower part of pics).  VG+.

Note - Alex was already signing his incredible interior illustrations.  This speaks to the high regard he (and Ned Pines) had for his work at this time.  Remember, the readership numbers for this kind of title probably exceeded the distribution numbers for comics.  And this illustration work for adults was more highly regarded than drawings for kids.

Everyday Astrology Jan. 1951   $20

132 pgs. Supple, OW-W pages.  Not a Schomburg cover, but a few great Schomburg illustrations within and a great cover with an atomic 50ish feel.  Fine.

That's it for single issues.  Now for two slabs.

And not just any two.  These are the two Lady's - Lady Justice with her scales and sword, and Lady Liberty, with her torch and sword.  I think they belong together.

The Qualified is barely that - one of the back pages with ads had one ad, maybe 2" square, cut out.

$250 each, $450 for the pair.

The 7.5 has been sold, now it's down to just the one below, the 7.0  Reduce the price to $225, since I was willing to do that anyways.

And lastly, a bound Everyday Astrology book - January-June 1941.  $200

The binding is in very nice shape, the pages are supple CR-OW with some toning at the edges.  Books were definitely trimmed, but slightly it appears. The covers have simply incredible gloss.  Each cover is a Deco delight.  Each book is filled with great Schomburg illustrations.

If you like bound books, and some do for good reason, then this is a rare treat.  A historical treasure.
