Hi all,

I am looking to send my Ren & Stimpy #1 for grading.  All of my comics are copies that haven't been read/ touched, or even removed from the original bag/back from the comic store years ago.  That being said, #1 comes with a scratch and sniff card that is also placed in my bag/back.  Should i send it as is for grading or open it up and remove the card?

Call or email CGC and give them the specifics of your situation, they have employees who are paid to do customer service and answer these types of questions.

Either way you are going to get a 9.2 or maybe a 9.4.  Polybagged books especially those with cards will need a press to get to 9.8, and you surely don't want to get a 9.2 - 9.4 copy of that book graded.  You'd have to pay someone to take it.

Ren And Stimpy #1 in high grade is selling for $5.00 on eBay.

If your reason for wanting to have it graded is to resell later on then as you can see that is not prudent, however...

If you are looking to just protect the book then a Mylite with an Acid Free Board will protect as well as a CGC Holder.

If you are looking to display the book this is a great alternative, https://www.bcwsupplies.com/comic-book-showcase-current-uv

I just recently purchased 3 for my 3 copies of Marvel Comics #1000 (Lovin the artwork) so they could be displayed and I highly recommend them if that is indeed what you are looking to do.

You must be referring to the "RARE Newsstand Edition" that sold on October 2.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Ren-Stimpy-Show-1-CGC-9-8-NM-MT-Wp-Marvel-Comics-1992-RARE-Newsstand-Edition/392446204755?hash=item5b5f9ddb53:g:l1AAAOSwzBBdh-l3

The LAST copy of Ren And Stimpy #1 sold was for $5.00 on October 28.

https://www.ebay.com/sch/3980/i.html?_from=R40&_nkw=ren+and+stimpy+1&LH_Sold=1&LH_Complete=1

Even MCS does not have any listed over $5.20.

Ultimately, it is your book and your decision.

As a general note for the OP and anyone else who is new and reading this.  We understand that if you haven't read or opened your comic since the beginning it is MORE LIKELY to be in better condition.  But that is not the same thing as ACTUALLY BEING IN THE HIGHEST POSSIBLE CONDITION.  You can read up on your comic grading and then see if it is free of essentially EVERY. POSSIBLE. DEFECT, then MAYBE you have a CHANCE of a 9.8.

Also, as a rule IF YOU HAVE TO ASK, then you should your consider anything 1980 and forward to be not worth grading unless you're SURE it's 9.8 (and even them maybe not).

But these rules only apply for financial reasons for most normal salary non-comic savant rational actors.  If your comic has special value to you or your collection, or you're made of money, or you have a super power that enables you to grade comics expertly without experience or training or practice, slab it all!  Great!  Put more money into the economy!  Help Florida solve find some of their missing women!  Put the CGC employees through college! Yay!
