Dividing up SONY Spider-Man Universe film rights

Does anyone know the "equation" that was used when Sony bought the film rights for Spider-man for what characters were included with that sale ?  For example, Sony has Morbius rights because, I'm assuming ASM 101 was the first appearance.  If the "equation" incorporated a first appearance though wouldn't Sony have the rights of the Punisher also? So maybe first appearances has nothing to do with it.  It's probably a complicated answer but does anyone know how the characters were divided up?
