migmtl76
Hi guys, I was considering buying this comic but the staples look suspicious... The staple hole look in bad shape from the outside but better in the interior centerfold. Also the lower staple is looking odd. What do you think? theCapraAegagrus
I would say that they book look "odd".

If they're replaced by in-era staples - it would receive a Conserved/gray label. migmtl76

That's entirely dependent on your interest in the book. What condition is it being advertised in? Are you hellbent on buying only to encapsulate? There's nothing wrong with conserved or restored comics. Especially "readers". Potentially replaced staples would be very low on my list of restoration-to-avoid if it's gonna be a bagged-and-boarded comic book. I think it's a 5.0 (at best 6.0 if pressed). No Conserved/gray label in the census on ASM 129 in any grade Edited December 13, 2019 by migmtl76
Krismusic
what I would do if you have it in hand to inspect is I would put the staples under a scope and take a look to see if there is small scratches to the staple such as from a pliers bending them back in place. But from what I see in the pictures I think its ok as some indicators are enlarged staple holes and previous impression left from the original staple. none of which I can see in the centerfold pic you have posted. you might like this article https://www.comicbookdaily.com/collecting-community/detecting-restoration/staple-manipulation/ migmtl76
Deadpoolica
Personally, I wouldn't chance it migmtl76
James J Johnson
It's OK. Neither staple is replaced, IMO. You posted great pics and they support these being original staples to the book. Thumbs up. Krismusic
