SANTA FE GETS A STORE

Brian Rempel

2442 Cerrillos Rd., #208

Santa Fe, NM 87505

In my letter in CBG #1525, I wrote to confirm the

rumor that Chuck Rozanski mentioned in his article:

that the only comics store in Santa Fe had closed its

doors.

This week, a new comics shop has opened its doors

in Santa Fe. The name of the store is “True Believers.”

It specializes in new comics and original comic art. It

will carry some Gold and Silver Age comics and

Bronze keys, but there will not be a large supply of

“common” back issues.

The new owner seems to be a very nice lady who

has a passion for original comic art. She has many

friends in the industry and has apparently begun to

book signings for the summer. The original-art-gallery

portion of her store promises to be impressive and,

frankly, unprecedented in this state. Bringing on

board the manager of the “old store” as a consultant

was also a smart move, in my opinion. His (Chris’)

knowledge of local trends and buying patterns will be

priceless during the store’s infancy. I should also mention

that the face behind the counter will be an employee

from the “old store,” so veteran comics buyers

will have a familiar face (not to mention a very nice

guy) to greet them. The store’s location also adds

promise to its success. It’s only a couple of blocks from

downtown Santa Fe and across the street from what is

arguably the hottest tourist restaurant in town.

I’ll let you know how things shape up through

spring and summer. I’m keeping my fingers crossed

that this store can sustain itself in the harsh economy

that is Santa Fe.

That's great news...it takes courage to open up a comic store these days. Sounds like the new store may even be better than the one it replaced. I hope it does well.

"the new store may even be better than the one it replaced"

It's sure starting out that way. The true test of any business in Santa Fe is will they even be around in six months? I'm doing everything I can to help ensure that they are.
