Hi Guys! I bought another Vampi #1 - Any Thoughts? - NEW SCANS!!!

67 posts in this topic

I think Steve is correct regarding the staples being a hair loose. It's not that uncommon a problem, especially for books that have been bagged for a long time and stored upright. I don't think the book is trimmed - it's just the scan that makes it appear that way.

It's a nice book but probably no better than an 8.0.

Cover:

3 abraded corners - tiny bindery tears

Vertical scuff/wear down length of cover (From "V" in Bedevil to the tip of boot on skull) - that's a common printers' defect for this issue, and this is the lightest I've seen.

2 CB spine ticks - very tiny

2 small staple tears (loose cover?) - nope

Back Cover:

Very slight overall wear - very

Rough lower left edge - no sumo.gif

Small chip missing from LLC - yes, tiny

At best...8.5 sumo.gif

Good analysis Jayman, but it's a 8.5 in it's sleep, and I'm betting it's a 9.4 yeeeeeeee-haw!

hi.gif Thanks

8.0 No way unless we are missing something 27_laughing.gif

8.5 doubtful, but possible

9.0 Good chance. cool.gif

9.2 Still a decent chance893crossfingers-thumb.gif

9.4 very very doubtful but I've seen worse crazy.gif

9.6 27_laughing.gif

I'll give you a 9.15 wink.gif

Oh by the way, I would have CGC double check that book for possible trimming.

hi.gif Thanks

Better wake that baby up then! poke2.gif

So how easy was it to slide the cover up and down? smirk.gif

The staples look pretty weak (loose) actually, but it's hard to tell for certain. If even just a bit weak - CGC will downgrade it drastically.

I hope I'm wrong, but really, this is just the sort of book that will disappoint you everytime.

That's the trouble with scans - this book is tight as they come - it doesn't have a single "weakness" acclaim.gif

Then how come the top holes are so large on both staples, and how come you were able to shift the cover by so much confused.gif

The holes aren't at all oversized - that appears to be an illusion or just the shine of the staples. I wasn't able to "shift" the cover at all, nor did I need to - I don't know why the seller's scan appeared shifted. confused-smiley-013.gif

I appreciate your comments RJ, but the book in hand states otherwise smile.gif

Oh and btw, thanks for pointing this out - for the cover to shift, both holes of each staple would have to be enlarged makepoint.gifmakepoint.gif

You can't see the bottom holes as well because the staple blocks the view makepoint.gif

I think your getting a little crazy here. crazy.gif

These types of threads are really starting to annoy me. I know I can just ignore them, but I feel a sense of responsibility to a fellow forumite to hopefully save him some time, trouble and money.

Diva asks us our opinion. We give it, yet he takes us to task for expressing a negative view. This is just plain wrong.

If he wants to ignore what we think - and decides to go forward - that's cool, but to say in essence that we don't know what we're talking about is both rude and foolish.

We're all having fun here - nobody took anyone to task . . . lighten up. stooges.gif

What makes you think I am ignoring any of the input of my brethren? makepoint.gif

Decides to go forward? With what? An impartial third-party grading service? 27_laughing.gif

The only expression of rudeness appears to be in this message flowerred.gif peace and love is what it's all about.

my thoughts are that you might consider starting buying FMOF # 1-10 instead of Vampi

Dr. Neff,

I've been watching those as well, as many of us have . . . wink.gif

thumbsup2.gif

I have a personal thing with Vampi though 27_laughing.gifinsane.gif
