Without the tape holding the 3/4 of the cover on it would be missing 3/4 of the front cover, ergo the .5 grade. If the tear wasn't complete it would probably have gotten the 1.0-1.8 everyone was guessing. This is helpful. Hypothetically, if I took a 9.4 book and cut the cover and taped it just like this book. Would it likely be a .5 as well? In other words, is it the nature of this defect that automatically drops it to a .5 (regardless of the overall condition)? Even remaindered comics get a .5, so I would assume that this much of the comic missing would also make it a .5. While I know that the section is not actually missing, as I said the compromise on tape a while ago was to treat tape as if it weren't there and pieces taped back on as missing. EDIT: In other words yes. A 9.4 with a large part of the cover cut off and taped back on would get a .5. It's a limiting defect.
